Mountainside is a borough located in Union County that is home to a population of approximately 7,000 residents. This area is especially known for its green look. A zoning ordinance has been in place for the last 50 years prohibiting the presence of retail services along the highway. The borough is rural in nature, and it is something that residents value greatly.
Retail services, restaurants, and other businesses are all available to residence through neighboring towns, which are a quick car ride or bus ride away.
The Mountainside school district serves public school students from pre-kindergarten through the eight grade through Beechwood School for students from pre-kindergarten through the second grade and Deerfield School for students from the third grade through the eighth grade. For younger residents moving on to high school, there is a partnership between Mountainside and neighboring towns in the form of a sending/receiving relationship for students to attend Governor Livingston High School. Additionally, students can choose to attend the Union County Vocational Technical Schools which serve students from all across Union County.
Recreation plays a large role in this borough, and the Recreation Department ensures that programs and activities are made readily available for residents year round. There is a community pool, a fitness trail, volleyball courts, tennis courts, and several sports fields available as well as batting cages and playgrounds. There are multiple leagues for residents of all ages to participate in as well, covering a wide range of sports.
