Closter is a borough located in Bergen County that is home a population of approximately 8,400 residents. Closter was first settled in 1704 and at the turn of the 20th century it transformed from being an area most noted for its sprawling estates and farms to an upper middle school suburb.
Closter is nicknamed the “Hub of the Northern Valley” due to its central location, and has a very strong public transportation system. Several New Jersey Transit bus lines serve the area providing access to New York City and various other areas of New Jersey.
In regards to education, the Closter Public School system serves students from kindergarten through the eighth grade. The two schools located in the district are Hillside Elementary School, serving students from kindergarten through the fourth grade, and Tenakill Middle School, serving students from the fifth grade through the eighth grade. High school aged residents attend Northern Valley Regional High School, located in Demarest.
The borough has an outdoor mall called Closter Plaza that provides several stores, restaurants, and a movie theater for both residents and visitors to enjoy. Additionally, Closter has its own golf course called Closter Golf Center that has driving ranges as well as a mini golf course.
